The View From Here
Affirmation was born in Salt Lake City, and this will be our fifth conference here (1980, 1987, 1997, 2003, 2009). The view from here looks out over our pioneer heritage and over the challenges of the 21st century and of Affirmation's changing role in its second thirty years.
Thirty years ago, the four chapters of Affirmation: Gay Mormons United, Matt Price's vision brought to reality two years earlier, met to form a new organization, international in scope, to be called Affirmation: Gay and Lesbian Mormons. Matt's vision is clearly visible in the view from here, as is that of the Father of Affirmation, Paul Mortensen.
Affirmation in 2009 is preparing the way for a new generation of leaders. The view from here encompasses both the experiences and the courage of those who have fought for our rights over the past three decades, and the opportunities of a society that places no barriers between any man or woman and their full civil rights, and that cherishes the worth of each of God's children.
The view from here is pretty exciting. Come catch it, September 18-20, in Salt Lake City.
